Village of Middleville

In the heart of the Thornapple River Valley, the village of Middleville offers a way of life enriched by values from the past. Near the edge of a dynamic growth area, Middleville has access to all the amenities of a large city, while retaining the advantages of traditional small town life.

Education

Thornapple Kellogg Schools are among the best in West Michigan. Three elementary schools, a new middle school, and a high school are all operated in the Village limits and have a combined enrollment of over 2,700 students. Plays, concerts and athletic events sponsored by the high school bring the community together several times a year.

Housing

Middleville offers a full spectrum of housing options – from older homes in the original plats, to new houses and multi-family dwellings surrounding the central business district. During the next five years, the Village has approved the development of hundreds of housing units all within its municipal boundaries.

Commercial and Industrial Development

Middleville is ideally located in the center of business in West Michigan. A major commercial development has been approved for construction in 2000 along the busy.

M-37 corridor and other businesses are active along the highway and in the historic central business district. Metropolitan shopping centers of Grand Rapids are only 20 minutes to the north. Industry thrives in Middleville. Bradford White, a community partner for over 50 years, is the largest Barry County employer, with over 1,000 people producing water heaters that are used around the country. Metaldyne is a leading automotive parts producer. Moreover, a number of light industrial firms enjoy Middleville’s proximity to Grand Rapids, Kalamazoo, Battle Creek and Lansing.

Middleville Services and Facilities

Middleville’s Department of Public Works maintains over twelve miles of street all year long. Its 2,300 residents enjoy the service of three wells and two storage tanks for fresh water. A state of the art waste water treatment plant, built in 1994, also serves the Village and remains poised to keep pace with Middleville’s growth. A proactive Local Development Finance Authority (LDFA) is hard at work ensuring that the Village will possess the resources to build additional infrastructure to meet the 21st century challenges.

Health and Emergency Services

The Barry County Sheriff’s Department/Middleville Unit provides concentrated law enforcement in the Village, while Thornapple Township’s Emergency Services ensures that the Village enjoys excellent protection against fire and medical emergencies.

Churches

The faith community thrives in Middleville as churches of many denominations play an important role in the life style of the Village. Today, four local churches serve residents of diverse beliefs.

Recreation and Community Events

The Village owns over five miles of the Paul Henry Thornapple Trail, which extends along the scenic banks of the Thornapple River – beginning at the trail head next to the Village hall and continuing south through adjacent townships. Sesquicentennial Park, also adjacent to the Village Hall in the central business district, provides a more stationary means of viewing the river. Spring Park with its ten acres housing a ball diamond, restrooms, pavilion, play area, ball diamond and nature area allows visitors an enjoyable respite. Calvin Hill Park, with its playground and basketball court is an excellent family recreational facility.
